Renowned "Hong Kong Four Talents" Choi Lan has passed away at the age of 83.

Hong Kong cultural, culinary, and cinematic giant Mr. Choi Lan passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, at the age of 83. In accordance with his wishes, no memorial service was held, and his body was cremated. His family expresses gratitude for the care and support from all sectors over the years.

Born in Singapore in 1941, Choi Lan studied in Japan before relocating to Hong Kong to develop his career. He joined Shaw Brothers Studio in 1963, serving as a production manager and senior executive, and produced many Jackie Chan movies and classic martial arts films. He later became a key figure in the Hong Kong film industry, known as one of the "Four Great Talents of Hong Kong" alongside Jin Yong, Ni Kuang, and Wong Jim.

Beyond his achievements in film and television, Choi Lan also made significant contributions to the fields of cuisine, culture, and travel. Starting in the 1990s, he launched several popular culinary shows as a writer and host, such as "Choi Lan at the Market" and "Choi Lan Marvels at the World," which were beloved by audiences. Over the years, he traveled around the world, integrating culture and cuisine into his writings and videos, publishing numerous essays and cookbooks, and gradually establishing restaurants and food brands.

In 2023, Choi Lan accidentally fell while helping his wife, resulting in a hip fracture. After being discharged from the hospital, he used a wheelchair and moved into a serviced apartment, cared for by a high-standard team. He remained optimistic in his later years, actively participating in social activities, and once publicly stated his fearless attitude towards life: "I have decided to complete my life's journey in Hong Kong, preferably without realizing it."

On social media platforms, Choi Lan shared his travel and cooking insights through texts and live broadcasts with his fans, maintaining frequent interactions until before his illness, demonstrating his passion for life.

Choi Lan's passing is not only a loss but also marks a somber moment for the cultural sectors of Hong Kong, Macau, and the Chinese-speaking world. With his multifaceted talents and genuine humor, he leaves behind a precious cultural heritage and memories. Although no public ceremony was held, his spirit and influence will deeply root in people's hearts and continue to live on through his writings, videos, and culinary creations.
