Senator Subiri hopes that the upcoming Senate hearing on online gambling will focus on the individuals operating these companies.
During a surprise interview with reporters, Subiri said, "This way we can find out if there are any politicians involved... if there are billionaires, who are these people? Then we will inform the public."
He added, "This is a very tough fight because we are facing wealthy people. They are all millionaires, billionaires, and they have very good connections. We want to know who the executives and owners of these institutions and online gambling businesses are. We will share the results of the next hearing with the media."
Subiri mentioned that officials from electronic currency wallet service providers will also be invited to the next hearing.
The senator said, "I want to know how much they earn; how much money have they collected from these online gambling activities in total? How many users do the online gambling platforms have?"
The senator also expressed his desire to confirm whether there are really 32 million gamblers in the Philippines.
He stated, "That's almost one-third, just under one-third of the population. Imagine, in almost every family, there is one or two people addicted to online gambling."
Who is in charge? Legislators demand the disclosure of the real owners of online gambling companies.
