Former President Rodrigo Duterte assured Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa that he would attend the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee's investigation into the previous administration's war on illegal drugs.
Dela Rosa said, "The former president told me that he will attend the Senate hearing, no matter who presides over it."
The investigation, led by Senate Minority Leader Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III, will issue invitations today to Duterte, retired Police Colonel Royina Garma, former National Police Commission Commissioner Edilberto Leonardo, former Senator Leila de Lima, Kerwin Espinosa, and families of the victims of the drug war.
Initially, Pimentel stated that they would only invite Duterte after the charges against him were made public. However, after consulting with Dela Rosa, Pimentel said they would invite Duterte to the first hearing on the drug war investigation.
The Senate panel will hold its first hearing on the drug war on Monday, October 28, at 10 AM. Meanwhile, former President Rodrigo Duterte was absent from today's House Quadripartite Committee investigation into the killings during his government's drug war, which sparked strong criticism from lawmakers.
