Since the beginning of September this year, multiple English-language websites and some Chinese media have reported that from December 1, 2024, tourists from 93 visa-exempt countries and regions will need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) visa before entering Thailand.
This news quickly spread across social media and self-media platforms, attracting a lot of attention, especially among Chinese tourists, leading to widespread discussion and even causing some misunderstandings.
However, upon verification, this policy has not yet been implemented.
According to current information, such reports mainly appear on some English-language websites, but the Thai government's official platforms and mainstream media have not yet confirmed or released any information on this.
Further verification through the official Thai ETA website revealed that Thailand's "Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) visa" is still in the proposal stage and has not become a mandatory requirement.
According to official announcements, the ETA plan may be approved between December 2024 and the first quarter of 2025, but there is also a possibility of further delays.
