Recently, there have been multiple cases of people being lured to scam parks in Cambodia and Myanmar. Today, the Ministry of the Interior stated that, following a consensus in an inter-ministerial meeting, it is planned to list Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos as high-risk countries. In the future, anti-fraud warnings and promotional cards will be added to electronic tickets to remind the public to be vigilant, and the public is encouraged to install the "Overseas Safety Guide" APP from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry of the Interior issued a press release stating that Minister of the Interior, Liu Shifang, chaired the inter-ministerial meeting yesterday and pointed out that since 2022, there have been multiple cases of Taiwanese people being deceived and coerced into scam parks in Cambodia. After concerted efforts by various government departments and international law enforcement cooperation, measures have been taken to prevent, dissuade, rescue, and investigate these cases, leading to a reduction in similar incidents.
Liu Shifang stated that cross-border fraud groups have moved to develop in Myanmar and Laos, leading to frequent reports of people being deceived into traveling or working in Thailand, and subsequently, many cases of people being stranded at the Thai-Myanmar border and in Myanmar. Adhering to the principle of safety first, the government thus convened an inter-ministerial meeting to continue to strengthen prevention and investigation measures to safeguard the public's safety.
The Ministry of the Interior mentioned that the preliminary consensus of the inter-ministerial meeting is expected to list Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos as high-risk countries. In addition to asking the Immigration Agency and the Aviation Police Bureau to strengthen advocacy and dissuasion at the borders, the public is also encouraged to download the "Overseas Safety Guide" APP from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministry of Transportation will also cooperate with airlines to enhance various warning practices, including adding anti-fraud warnings to electronic tickets and sending promotional cards to remind the public to be cautious.
The Ministry of the Interior emphasized that it will continue to work in coordination with various ministries to combat such crimes using the Human Trafficking Prevention Act, the Criminal Code, and the Fraud Crime Hazard Prevention Ordinance, and will cooperate with NGOs and Taiwanese business organizations to rescue overseas victims.
