The Colombian gambling regulatory authority Coljuegos has intensified efforts to block illegal gambling websites. Coljuegos will now directly request internet service providers to block those websites operating online games without paying the corresponding copyright fees.
Coljuegos President Marco Emilio Hincapié stated that this strategy will be implemented according to the Circular No. 017 of 2025 issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, which sets the guidelines and procedures for blocking websites specifically used for exploiting, selling, paying for, or promoting unauthorized opportunity games.
"The transformative government is working together to protect the gambling industry. After multiple roundtable discussions with the Ministry of Information and Communications (MINTIC), we have been able to streamline the process of blocking illegal gambling websites," said Hincapié.
The president of the entity emphasized that so far, nearly 26,600 blocking orders have been issued to unauthorized gambling websites.
"With this new procedure, we hope to block illegal platforms more quickly. We will no longer need to submit requests to different entities; instead, we will be able to directly order internet providers to block," Hincapié stated.
This measure by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MINTIC) is based on Decree No. 0175 of 2025, which was adopted due to tax measures taken in response to a state of internal turmoil announced by the national government.
"In addition to combating illegal operators, our goal also includes protecting resources for peace and health, and providing greater security for the 14 authorized operators in the country," added Hincapié.
