In May 2025, the iGaming market in Ontario shone brightly, not only setting a new high in total gaming revenue but also breaking the 8 billion Canadian dollars mark in total player expenditure for the first time, despite a slight decline in monthly active users.
According to data released by iGaming Ontario, the province's unadjusted total gaming revenue in May was 338 million Canadian dollars (approximately 247 million US dollars), up 2.9% from the previous record in January this year, a year-on-year increase of 40.3%, and a month-on-month increase of 8%. Among them, online casinos remain the absolute main force, contributing 259.8 million US dollars, accounting for 77% of the total revenue; sports betting contributed 71.8 million US dollars, accounting for 21%; online poker contributed 6.3 million US dollars, accounting for 2%.
In terms of betting amounts, the total betting volume in May reached a record 8.07 billion Canadian dollars, surpassing the 7.95 billion Canadian dollars set in March, with a month-on-month increase of 3.5% and a year-on-year increase of 28.9%. Online casino betting amounted to 6.96 billion Canadian dollars, a year-on-year increase of 30.9%; sports betting was 972 million Canadian dollars, up 18.5%; online poker betting was 129 million Canadian dollars, an increase of 11.6%.
It is worth noting that although the number of monthly active user accounts decreased by 2% to 1.07 million, the average monthly income per user increased by 10%, reaching 316 US dollars, indicating the dominance of higher spending power users. This trend suggests that the iGaming market in Ontario is entering a new phase of high-quality, stable growth.
