According to multiple media outlets in Myanmar, the "Pig Butchering Plate" scam parks in Northern Shan State are not only unchecked but are growing larger. Insiders point out that scam groups are widely distributed at the junctions between the Myanmar military and local armed forces, operating with impunity due to monthly "protection fees," effectively buying their safety.
The insider mentioned that these scam parks are now mostly located in dense forests, making them hard to detect. These large-scale scam organizations often involve hundreds to thousands of people, typically using fake romantic relationships or investment platforms as fronts to systematically conduct telecommunications fraud. Occasional "showpiece" law enforcement actions are usually just for show, mainly targeting groups that fail to pay the required tributes.
It is said that each scam organization must pay a high "protection fee" to obtain so-called "legal operating" status, allowing them to conduct scams under tacit approval. As the parks expand their territory and operations become more public, a kind of underground "tax system" is gradually forming in Northern Myanmar, becoming one of the significant causes of ongoing instability.
There is external concern that if unchecked, these parks will become a deep crisis for regional governance.
