The Immigration Department of Kedah, Malaysia, launched a raid operation codenamed "Trap Operation", dismantling an illegal online gambling den hidden within a residential area and arresting 9 suspects, including 7 Chinese nationals, shocking the local community.
This operation was initiated based on public reports. After law enforcement entered a residential house in Alor Setar, they discovered the scene was set up like a mini "scam command center", with numerous computers, mobile phones, and networking equipment used to operate the illegal online gambling business.
According to the Kedah Immigration Department, among the 9 arrested, 7 are Chinese citizens aged between 20 to 49, and 2 local men are suspected of assisting illegal foreigners in hiding and providing gambling venues. The scene yielded 7 Chinese passports, over 30 mobile phones, several laptops, and multiple wireless routers among other related equipment.
Preliminary investigations show that the gang has been involved in online gambling activities locally for a long time, with some Chinese nationals suspected of illegal stay or misuse of visas. Under Section 51(5) of the Malaysian Immigration Act 1959/63, the suspects will undergo further legal investigation and penalties.
Mohamad Rizuwan, the Director of Kedah Immigration Department, emphasized that online gambling poses a serious threat to social stability and national security, and law enforcement will continue to crack down hard to prevent Malaysia from becoming a "gambling springboard" or a "scam logistics base".
