Cambodian police launched a raid in the capital Phnom Penh, dismantling a Chinese illegal online gambling den hidden next to the fence of the Olympic Stadium. During the operation, several suspects were arrested, and a large number of servers, electronic devices, and bank cards used for the crime were seized.
According to insiders, the gambling platform operated under the guise of "sports betting" and "live video," and had been providing accounts to users inside and outside China for a long time, with involved funds amounting to tens of millions of yuan. The den was strategically located in a hidden spot in the busiest core area of Phnom Penh, utilizing the surrounding crowd and terrain to evade law enforcement, and had been operating illegally for several months.
The police stated that most of the arrested individuals were Chinese nationals, many of whom were staying in Cambodia illegally on tourist visas. Some were "technical backbones" responsible for network maintenance, money laundering, and cross-border operations. Currently, the authorities are collaborating with the immigration department to trace their entry paths and investigate whether there is a larger criminal network behind them.
As Cambodia has recently intensified its crackdown on "Chinese gray production," illegal gangs in places like Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville continue to face severe pressure. The police emphasized that they will continue frequent clean-ups and do not rule out the possibility of more dens being investigated in the future.
