Egypt is rapidly emerging as the most dynamic gaming market in Africa and the Middle East. The latest data shows that Egyptian gamers spend up to 11.8 hours per week on mobile, PC, and console games, surpassing the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region's average of 10.8 hours, topping the regional game participation chart.
Although geographically located in North Africa, Egypt holds a significant position in the political and economic landscape of the Middle East and Africa, enabling it to combine Africa's rich gaming culture with the Middle East's growing tech investments, leveraging unique regional advantages.
This data comes from a report by Niko Partners titled "2025 MENA Region Gamer Behavior and Market Insights," which surveyed 1,580 players from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. The report notes: "Egypt has a highly engaged online player community, which represents an as yet fully untapped loyal market for game developers and publishers."
The gaming craze in Egypt is driving the development of the entire African gaming industry. With a youthful, digital player structure and a strong competitive inclination, the country is pushing itself onto the global gaming stage. The report also points out that 54.6% of players participated in esports activities, and the proportion of female players has exceeded 37%, showcasing the diversity and inclusiveness of the country's gaming ecosystem.
By the end of 2024, the number of gamers in the MENA region will have surpassed 72 million, and it is expected to reach 84.3 million by 2029, with revenues growing from 2 billion USD to 2.8 billion USD. Egypt's performance is undoubtedly accelerating the region's transition from an "emerging market" to a "global power."
