Phnom Penh police raided two suspected online scam dens in Van Chai Gang district and Sen Speed district, successfully arresting 100 suspects, including 75 from Taiwan, China, 24 from mainland China, and one Vietnamese national.
At the scene, a large number of crime tools were seized, including 469 mobile phones, 127 computers, 34 passports, and related evidence. Currently, all arrested individuals and seized items have been legally transferred to the Phnom Penh Police Department for further investigation and processing.
This operation was personally directed by the Deputy Mayor of Phnom Penh, Hong Suli, as part of a national campaign to crack down on online fraud. Recently, Cambodia has launched simultaneous cleanup operations in various places, continuously destroying multiple scam dens with significant results.
The Chairman of the Cambodian National Committee for Combating Online Fraud, Prime Minister Hong Manai, signed an order on July 14 to initiate a nationwide unified cleanup operation, mobilizing law enforcement and armed forces to strike comprehensively, even deploying special forces, vowing to eradicate hidden telecom fraud bases across the country.
Prime Minister Hong Manai also emphasized that any local officials who fail to actively carry out the crackdown tasks will face dismissal to ensure the cleanup operation leaves no blind spots or omissions.
