The Cambodian National Committee for Combating Cyber Fraud responded to Prime Minister Hun Manet's national eradication order on July 14, recently launching a joint major operation in several provinces, with unprecedented enforcement efforts, reflecting the government's determination to eradicate fraud dens.
Kampong Cham Province: Local police raided a rental house in Snoul District, destroying an international fraud den and arresting 312 foreign suspects (including 56 women), encompassing personnel from China, Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Myanmar. A total of 329 computers and 1630 mobile phones were seized at the scene and have now been handed over to the Kampong Cham provincial police;
Battambang Province: A three-story building in Poipet was sealed off as a fraud base, with police arresting 271 Indonesian suspects (including 45 women), and a large amount of electronic equipment was confiscated;
Phnom Penh: Police raided two dens in Boeng Keng Kang and Sen Sok districts, detaining a total of 100 people, including 75 from Taiwan, China, 24 from mainland China, and 1 from Vietnam;
Pursat Province: A rental house in Tada commune, Veal Veng district was raided, capturing 27 foreign suspects (including 9 women), including nationals from China, Vietnam, and Myanmar;
According to Prime Minister Hun Manet's directive, national-level law enforcement forces have mobilized special forces on standby, continuing to cooperate with local governments to clean up various fraud dens.
The Prime Minister warned: "Officials in areas that have not implemented the eradication order will be dismissed." This large-scale roundup is also seen as a strong statement of Cambodia's "zero tolerance" policy towards cybercrime.
Additionally, international media reported that this operation arrested over 1,000 people, involving multiple provinces, including Phnom Penh, Poipet, Sisophon, Kratie, Pursat, etc., with many foreign suspects. A large number of computers and mobile phones were confiscated, indicating that this crackdown has escalated to a national-level high-pressure strike.
This large-scale inter-provincial operation not only cleaned up multiple fraud bases but also greatly enhanced government credibility and public confidence, marking an important phase in Cambodia's efforts to combat transnational cyber fraud.
