Cambodian police have recently launched large-scale raids, focusing on cracking down on suspected online gambling and telecommunications fraud activities. On the evening of July 18, the unified command in Tbong Khmum province raided a casino named "XAMAT", uncovering a deeply hidden online gambling den and arresting 448 suspects, most of whom were Vietnamese nationals.
Police statistics show that the suspects include 350 Vietnamese citizens (104 women) and 98 Cambodian citizens (40 women). Law enforcement officers also seized a large amount of communication equipment and computer gear used for online gambling and fraud at the scene, further confirming that the casino had been converted into a cybercrime hub, suspected of organizing transnational gambling and fraud activities.
The next day (July 19) at 11 AM, Phnom Penh police deployed joint law enforcement forces again, raiding a residential house in Sangkat area, successfully destroying a tele-fraud den. 12 Chinese suspects were arrested on the spot, and 12 computers and 16 mobile phones used for the crimes were seized. The police stated that this den had connections with overseas fraud groups, and the suspects had induced victims to transfer money through false information, with some evidence of money flow already obtained.
Both cases have now been transferred to a special task force for further investigation. Officials emphasize that in the future, efforts to crack down on gambling and fraud activities will be intensified, especially against venues that use casinos to cover up criminal activities, adopting a "zero tolerance" attitude, thoroughly investigating and dealing with them according to the law.
