According to CNBC, Telegram's built-in cryptocurrency wallet TON Wallet has officially launched in the US market, marking the first full-scale opening of this crypto payment tool with over a hundred million global users to American users.
Following this launch, approximately 87 million American users can send, receive, and manage cryptocurrency assets directly within the Telegram chat interface without the need to download additional apps or register new accounts. TON Wallet offers users a fully self-custodial wallet service and supports core functions such as stablecoin transfers and token exchanges.
It is noteworthy that TON Wallet has also integrated the cryptocurrency payment service provider MoonPay, offering users a "zero-fee coin purchase" channel, a move seen as a direct challenge to traditional crypto trading platforms like Cash App and Coinbase.
Since 2024, TON Wallet has rapidly expanded globally, with the number of active users worldwide now exceeding 100 million. However, due to regulatory uncertainties in the US market, Telegram had not previously launched this feature within the US. This launch signifies a key breakthrough in compliance for Telegram and indicates a significant step forward in its global crypto ecosystem strategy.
As the US regulatory environment becomes clearer, Telegram's move may trigger a new round of competitive restructuring in the crypto wallet sector.
