Malaysia's Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) data shows that from January 2022 to August 2025, the country has removed over 550,000 illegal online contents, with gambling and fraud-related posts accounting for more than 80%, totaling over 440,000.
Deputy Minister of Communications, Zhang Nianqun, introduced that there were 321,012 gambling-related contents and 119,273 fraud-related contents, with the rest being obscene information, cyberbullying, and false news. MCMC is closely collaborating with the police, domestic trade departments, and the national bank among other institutions, continuously strengthening the investigation and enforcement against harmful information.
To enhance regulatory efficiency, MCMC launched an artificial intelligence chatbot "AIFA" in January 2025, to help the public identify and report suspicious content. At the same time, all social platforms operating in Malaysia must obtain a license and strictly implement newly introduced codes of conduct, strengthening the protection of minors online.
The Ministry of Communications pointed out that public awareness campaigns such as the "Safe Internet Movement" are continuously being promoted, aimed at raising public awareness about cyberbullying prevention and age-appropriate use of digital platforms, together creating a safer and healthier online environment.
