A recent embezzlement case has emerged in Bacolod City, Philippines, where a 30-year-old woman was arrested by the police for allegedly using her former employer's approximately 900,000 pesos for online cockfighting (sabong) gambling.
According to Glenn Montano, the chief of the 10th precinct of Bacolod City Police, the woman had been working as an accountant at a virtual marketing company for eight years. Investigations revealed that she had been addicted to online cockfighting platforms and had been embezzling company funds to satisfy her gambling addiction, resulting in significant losses, starting two years ago.
In fact, the company had noticed financial irregularities two years ago. In January this year, the suspect had already received a subpoena, and there were other unexecuted arrest warrants against her. The police arrested her this time based on a warrant for "qualified theft."
The court has currently set a 40,000 pesos bail for the suspect. She has been detained at the 10th precinct of Bacolod City Police, and the case is still being processed.
