The Central Bank of the Philippines (BSP) recently introduced new regulations that completely prohibit electronic payment gateways from providing any form of links or services to online gambling platforms. This move is widely regarded as a key action by the government to strengthen the regulation of the online gambling industry and has quickly gained public support from several political figures.

On the 28th, Senate Minority Deputy Leader Juan Miguel "Migs" Zubiri explicitly praised the move as "a very positive decision" that effectively prevents gambling platforms from further infiltrating ordinary Filipino households. He emphasized that the central bank has cut off payment channels between commonly used e-wallets, including GCash, and gambling sites, not only intercepting the flow of funds but also creating favorable conditions for Congress to promote stricter gambling regulation legislation.

Zubiri further pointed out that online gambling is highly secretive and pervasive, especially endangering vulnerable groups, leading to family bankruptcies, increased crime, and other social problems. He stated: "By implementing a blockade at the source of payment channels, it makes it difficult for gambling sites to reach ordinary users, which will help save many families and prevent more people from falling into hardship." He also expressed his respect and gratitude for the decisive actions of the central bank.

Furthermore, Zubiri called on the executive branch to take this opportunity to actively promote comprehensive legislation to fundamentally curb the negative social impacts brought by online gambling.
