Buenos Aires city councilor Facundo Del Gaiso recently filed a complaint, pointing out that there are suspected illegal online gambling advertisements in the D line subway cars, specifically naming the gambling operator Betsson. The complaint is based on Law No. 6,330, which prohibits any form of public road gambling advertising.
Del Gaiso emphasized that although the related companies have obtained the operating license from the Buenos Aires Lottery Bureau (LOTBA), this does not exempt them from complying with advertising restrictions. He called for the immediate removal of the advertisements and penalties for those responsible, also noting that it is necessary to protect minors from gambling information according to the "Gambling Addiction Law" and various international treaties.
"Both LOTBA and the city government are aware of this situation. Placing gambling advertisements in the subway is illegal and disrespectful to the citizens. This is not the first time we have reported this; we have repeatedly warned them about violating Article 31 of the 'Gambling Addiction Law'," Del Gaiso said.
This incident has once again sparked public discussion about the regulation of gambling advertisements. The Civic Union party, to which Del Gaiso belongs, advocates that regardless of whether gambling companies are legal or not, their advertising activities should be strictly restricted. The legislator also proposed a new bill suggesting that the total income tax rate for online gambling companies be increased from 6% to 12%, equal to the tax rate of physical casinos, to enhance tax fairness.
