The 2025 Betfred Derby is set to take place at Epsom Downs, a grand event with over two centuries of history, now experiencing unprecedented global exposure. According to the organizers, this year's 246th Derby will be broadcasted simultaneously by 41 broadcasters to audiences in 170 countries and regions, setting a new historical record for the event.
This year's international broadcast is led by the Racecourse Media Group (RMG) and HBA Media, in collaboration with the Jockey Club, creating an unprecedented global broadcasting map for the Derby. Major sports media around the world, including ESPN/Disney+ in Latin America and the Caribbean, SuperSport in Africa, FanDuel in the USA, FanCode in India, D-Smart in Turkey, and Sportsnet in Canada, have joined the broadcasting lineup. These new channels also indicate the rapidly rising influence of the event in emerging sports and betting markets.
Meanwhile, the Derby has also been included in the "World Pool" events, broadcasted globally, allowing viewers in Hong Kong to watch through the Hong Kong Jockey Club TV and related platforms, continuing the event's popularity in Asia.
Jim Allen, the General Manager of Epsom Downs Racecourse, stated that the global broadcast of the race dates back to 1896 when the Derby became the first horse racing event to be filmed and shown in cinemas; in 1931, it became the first horse race broadcasted on television. "Today, over 40 TV institutions will present this classic event to a global audience in various forms, from traditional TV and streaming platforms to custom channels on airports and cruise ships, allowing viewers to engage in this feast of speed and glory like never before."
It is worth mentioning that this year's broadcast coverage will extend for the first time to the air and sea: through Sport 24 and Anuvu, the Derby will be broadcasted on several airlines and cruise ships globally, allowing travelers to experience the event "on the go."
In the UK and Ireland, Racing TV will broadcast the event in over 12,000 pubs and clubs, while BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT will also provide extensive audio coverage.
To meet the diverse viewing needs of different audiences, this year's event content is also more flexible. In addition to the full global live version, the organizers have also launched short program versions like "Crown Jewels Racing" hosted by Aly Vance, better suiting the viewing habits of mobile users and international markets.
As global attention continues to climb, the Betfred Derby is gradually transforming into a truly "world-class equestrian brand"—not only creating glory on the track but also continually breaking records in the broadcasting field.
