Recently, 19 licensed gambling operators in the Philippines announced the establishment of the "Philippines PlaySafe Alliance" to strengthen regulatory compliance, protect consumers, and combat unauthorized gambling activities. The signing ceremony was held in Taguig City, with industry giants such as DigiPlus Interactive, World Platinum Technologies, Trojans Well Entertainment, and Gavin Ventures serving as interim leaders.
The alliance spokesperson and president of World Platinum Technologies, Mike Defensor, openly stated that the illegal market is the "real enemy" of online gambling—unlicensed, untaxed, lacking in regulation, and even minors can participate, leaving public safety completely unprotected. It is estimated that about 70% of the online gambling market in the Philippines is illegal, with only 30% being compliant and taxed.
The alliance will work closely with PAGCOR, focusing on enhancing compliance reviews, customer and age verification, marketing standards, and promoting public education to alert players to the risks of illegal platforms. Additionally, plans include funding research and prevention of gambling harm, including establishing a national hotline.
PAGCOR has recently signed an agreement with the Advertising Standards Council to promote responsible advertising. In the future, the alliance will elect a formal management team, establish specialized committees, and introduce international experts to ensure the implementation of player protection, advertising standards, and deterrent measures against illegal operators. The alliance is also open to other licensed operators joining.
