Denmark's gambling regulatory authority, Spillemyndigheden, has revealed that the total gambling revenue for July 2023 reached 634 million Danish kroner (approximately 99 million US dollars), marking a 12.8% increase from the same period last year. This growth is primarily attributed to the robust performance of the online casino market, indicating a continuous recovery in the Danish gambling industry.

Overall Revenue Performance and Growth Trends

In July 2023, Denmark's total gambling revenue saw a year-over-year increase of 12.8%, reaching 634 million Danish kroner. This figure significantly surpasses last year's 562 million Danish kroner and is also an 8.4% increase from June 2023. The continuous growth trend indicates a steady recovery in the Danish gambling market.

The report from the regulatory authority Spillemyndigheden highlights that the online gambling segment was the main driver of growth, particularly the online casinos and sports betting showing remarkable performance. This growth trend reflects the maturity of the Danish digital gambling market and an increase in user engagement.

Online Casino Segment Performance

Online casino revenue in July amounted to 349 million Danish kroner, a 20.5% increase year-over-year, making it the strongest performing segment. Online slot games were the most popular, generating 291.7 million Danish kroner in revenue, accounting for the majority of the total online casino revenue.

Blackjack and roulette contributed 22.2 million and 16.8 million Danish kroner respectively. The remaining revenue came from bingo games, poker games, and other types of games. This distribution of revenue reflects the players' preferences for different types of games.

Sports Betting Segment Recovery

Sports betting revenue rebounded after two consecutive months of decline, reaching 159 million Danish kroner in July, a 6.0% increase year-over-year. Mobile gambling was the most prominent, contributing 114.5 million Danish kroner in revenue, accounting for 72% of the total sports betting revenue.

Desktop and retail outlets contributed 28.1 million and 16.8 million Danish kroner respectively. The dominance of mobile platforms indicates that Danish gambling users are moving towards mobile platforms, aligning with the global trend in digital gambling.

Performance of Physical Gambling Operations

Physical gambling operations maintained a stable performance, with slot machine revenue reaching 90 million Danish kroner, slightly below last year's 92 million Danish kroner. Of this, 80.1% of the revenue came from terminal machines within casinos, and 19.9% from machines in restaurants.

Physical casino revenue grew by 18.8% year-over-year, reaching 33 million Danish kroner, showing a gradual recovery in offline gambling venues. Physical bingo games contributed 2 million Danish kroner in revenue, a relatively small proportion.

Responsible Gambling Data

As of the end of August, a total of 62,577 people in Denmark were registered with the ROFUS self-exclusion program, with about 170 new registrations in July. This data indicates that responsible gambling measures continue to be implemented and monitored.

Among those registered with the ROFUS program, 65.0% chose to permanently quit gambling. The gender distribution shows that 78.2% are male and 21.3% are female, a ratio consistent with previous years, reflecting the demographic characteristics of gambling behavior.
