The Special Task Force (STF) of the Dehradun Police in Uttarakhand, India, conducted a late-night raid over the weekend, dismantling an illegal gambling den located in a residential area and arresting 12 individuals involved, revealing a cross-regional gambling network between Delhi and Nepal.
The operation took place from late Saturday night to early Sunday morning, where police seized approximately 1,900 gambling chips, 89,000 rupees in cash (about $1,065), 12 mobile phones, and a car. The raid occurred at a private residence owned by 38-year-old Shashank Gupta from Gurgaon, who is alleged to be one of the main organizers of the gambling operation.
The arrested individuals include suspects from various parts of Delhi, such as Nikhil Jatav from Mangolpuri, Gaurav Margo from Jiltinagar, and Himanshu Arora from Ashoknagar, as well as residents from Dehradun and its surroundings, and one suspect from Nepal named Keshav (also known as Bablu Singh Dhami).
Under the Indian Gambling Act, all suspects will face charges related to illegal operation and participation in gambling. The police stated that they are conducting a thorough investigation into the suspects' bank accounts and financial activities to determine the scale and frequency of the network's operations.
This case reflects that urban residential areas have become new havens for underground gambling activities, and the police have pledged to continue intensifying their crackdown on such illegal activities.
